Occlusal Disease Care

A Better Bite For A Better Life

Say goodbye to jaw pain, headaches and worn teeth. At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, we offer occlusal disease care with a gentle touch in order to restore the harmony of your bite. You may not even realize you have a problem with your bite, but our expert team will provide you with a diagnosis and a treatment plan that is tailored to you and your needs before your symptoms worsen. Our goal is to correct how your teeth come together, so you enjoy lifelong excellent oral health and wellness.

What Is Occlusal Disease?

Occlusal disease, also known as malocclusion, is when your upper and lower teeth don’t come together as they should. This misalignment often causes a domino effect to other health issues such as jaw pain, headaches and wear and tear on your teeth from grinding (bruxism) and may result in tooth loss. At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, our dentists are trained to spot the signs of occlusal disease early on and provide you with an effective, personalized treatment plan.

Symptoms Of Occlusal Disease

At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, we prioritize patient education and take the time during your appointments to inform you about your oral health including highlighting the importance of occlusal disease care. If you notice any of these symptoms, we recommend you ask your dentist at your next dental exam and cleaning with us, or contact our Ashburn office to be seen:

  • Tooth Wear: If you notice your teeth look shorter or have changed shape, they may be experiencing wear from grinding or clenching, a condition known as bruxism.

  • Jaw/Facial Pain: You may experience pain or discomfort in your jaw or get headaches more frequently from your teeth having an incorrect relationship.

  • Tooth Sensitivity: Being sensitive to extremely hot or cold foods and drinks is another symptom of occlusal disease as the dentin in your teeth is more exposed.

  • Clicking Or Popping Sounds: Clicking or popping sounds in your jaw is a very common symptom of a TMJ disorder.

Occlusal Disease Care

If occlusal disease is left untreated, it can be harmful to your health and cause more problems in the future such as significant damage to your teeth that make it difficult to eat, bone loss, chronic headaches and TMJ disorders. It also plays a role in your mental health with studies showing that people who feel self-conscious about their smile will turn down social events and gatherings. At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, our job is to treat occlusal disease with restorative care so you can enjoy the benefits of excellent oral health.

We will work with you to create an even bite by making minor adjustments to the chewing surfaces of your teeth.

We proudly offer many dental restorations such as dental crowns or veneers that can improve the appearance of your teeth that may have been damaged by your occlusal disease.

Nightguards are a dental appliance that you wear at night while you sleep in order to protect your teeth from excessive grinding or clenching, also known as bruxism. At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, we are happy to offer our patients custom nightguards to ensure a proper and comfortable fit.
