Digital X-Rays
Our practice is committed to providing our patients with convenient, safe treatments using advanced technology such as digital X-rays in our Ashburn office. Digital X-rays offer superior imaging for our team to get a clear picture of your oral health. Thanks to advanced software, it also saves time and is over in a flash! Plus, you are exposed to less radiation than that of traditional X-ray equipment. We will typically take X-rays during your routine dental exams and cleanings, which should be about every 6 months, in order to keep track of the health of your teeth, gums and jaw. Some cases may require X-rays more often, and our team will discuss with you when we recommend having these digital images taken.
CBCT Scans
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) offers advanced 3D images of the oral and maxillofacial region, which assists Dr. Khalil or Dr. Merlo in making specific diagnoses and highly successful treatment plans. In comparison to traditional X-rays, CBCT scans give us an in-depth look at the density of the jawbone and its anatomical structures, which is helpful when performing dental implant procedures, root canals and treating TMJ/TMD.
This offers a number of benefits including a better view of the oral structures, more accurate and effective treatment plans, and helps to avoid complications by understanding the exact anatomy. This allows our dentists to diagnose a wide range of oral and maxillofacial issues.
iTero Digital Scanner
So long messy, goopy impressions! At Ashburn Dentistry by Design, we use an advanced technology called the iTero Digital Scanner to take impressions of your mouth in one swift movement. It is quick, comfortable and provides accurate 3D models of your teeth and gums. We often use this piece of advanced technology in order to send these models to our lab partners who will use it as a digital blueprint in crafting your custom restorations such as crowns, implants and bridges. By utilizing advanced technology such as the iTero digital scanner, our team is able to truly personalize your treatment plans from start to finish by seeing your mouth’s anatomical structures, which is helpful when performing dental implant procedures, root canals and treating TMJ/TMD.
IO (Intraoral) Cameras
Intraoral (IO) cameras are able to take pristine images of a patient’s mouth, which helps our team diagnose certain dental concerns, provide you with an in-depth explanation of what’s going on in your oral health, as well as document these conditions to monitor and track any changes over time. IO cameras give dentists such as Dr. Khalil and Dr. Merlo a better visual of common oral health problems such as cavities, gum disease and tooth fractures that might not be seen during a traditional exam. It’s like using a magnifying glass to get an in-depth look at what’s going on in the mouth, but we can record and even show you what we are looking at in real time!
